The Bookie Replacement Project
The challenge this customer faced was clearances to the top of the fireplace. Many of the fireplaces that she liked required the ceiling of the enclosure to be taller but we could not raise the height because of the windows above. To solve this issue we build the entire structure out of non-combustible materials and added small vents in the corners and base to minimize the heat.
To update the look, she asked that we eliminate the built in shelves and cover them with stone. This made the face appear larger and gave the appearance of a traditional stacked masonry. One challenge we had was the 22 degree corner. The stone manufacturer does not make a corner that matches this angle so our lead mitered the corner to blend each seam together.
