The Junglov Replacement Project
This customer had an existing brick fireplace with masonry chimney. They envisioned a more modern linear fireplace in their family room but were limited by the size of their fireplace opening. Instead of trying to retrofit what they already had, they chose to start fresh.
We eliminated and removed the chimney, resided the outside and drywalled the inside. Then we built the fireplace into the room off center of the ceiling support beam. Wanting to install the Television over the fireplace but not wanting to have to look up at it, the customer chose to go with a fireplace that offered a "DHC" Kit.
Many manufacturers are offering DHC kits on various units these days in one form or another. As you can see in the second picture, a vent is installed close to the ceiling above the fireplace. The purpose of this is to redirect the heat to come out above the television. This reduces clearances and allows the television to be installed as low as 6" above the fireplace opening.
Also, they loved the stone they picked but wanted it to be a few shades darker. To achieve this, we put on a satin sealer that enhanced the colors in the stone.
