3 Signs You Need Fireplace Cleaning and Inspection

The long winter is over, and although spring is here, you may still be using your gas fireplace to knock off the chill on colder nights. After using your gas fireplace all winter long, you may be noticing some changes when you use your fireplace. There are some definite signs that after much use, your gas fireplace needs cleaning and inspection.

It’s Been More than a Year

Your gas fireplace should really be cleaned and inspected at least once annually. This will help ensure that it is safe for you to operate, as well as continuing to be safe for the environment. Often, venting systems need to be cleaned out - especially if any creatures nested in it while it was not in use. The fireplace itself also needs to be cleaned, and the whole unit should be inspected for safety and efficiency.

You Notice an Odor

When dust and debris accumulate in the fireplace or its venting or chimney system, it may create an odor when you use the fireplace. If you begin to notice strange odors, either when you first light the fireplace or after it has been running for a few hours, you probably need to make sure that your gas fireplace is cleaned thoroughly.

Not Efficient

If you notice that your gas fireplace is no longer getting as hot as it once did, or if it refuses to light at all, you need to schedule an inspection and cleaning right away. There could be something wrong with the fireplace which could present a safety hazard.
