If you have a fireplace, whether gas or electric, you can help heat your home and knock that chill off without having to run a furnace or heater. This can save you quite a bit of money on heating costs. Here are three tips to get the most heat from your fireplace.

Check Your Blower

If you have a gas or electric fireplace, it probably includes a blower that pushes the heat out into the room. If it doesn’t have a blower, now is the time to talk to your installer about adding one. If the blower doesn’t seem to be working properly, you should get your fireplace serviced so that it is functioning at the optimal level.

Turn on Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans can help you circulate the warm air from your fireplace and push it into other rooms. You will want to set the ceiling fan so that it is pushing the warm air down into the room. Heat rises, and this is the best way for you to enjoy the heat that your fireplace is generating. Turn the fans on low so that you don’t get a cool breeze from them.

Start Your Fireplace Up Early

The sooner you start up your fireplace, the easier it will be for it to keep your home heated and from getting chilly. If you wait to start up the fireplace until there is already a chill in the air, it may not be able to catch up.
